We need inclusive plans for town centre

Chelmsford Tory council chiefs are bullish about their Plan for Chelmsford's future but are they leading us in the right direction? Previous planners' efforts helped ruin the town in the 60's, when dual carriageway Parkway was driven right through it, separating the Moulsham Street area.

Now they talk of ever-higher building blocks and include more major highway schemes that could aggravate traffic pollution, destroy character and spoil otherwise exciting re-development proposals. They say they've consulted, but have they listened?

Said local Lib Dem James Gardner, "We say this is the local community's plan, not any individual group's plan and hopefully the Inquiry starting later this year will ensure this happens and so avoid further blunders this time around."
