Conservative waste plans thrown out by Government

The waste disposal plans of Conservative-led Essex County Council are in total confusion after their second Private Finance Initiative bid was rejected by the government. The Conservatives' latest bid, which seems to have been cobbled together overnight without any consultation, is very different to the last one - with no incinerator and plans to send all of Essex's unrecycled waste to Basildon.

Blue Badge Changes Ahead

The Department for Transport is making significant changes to the rules governing disabled parking badges which will affect Chelmsford residents with disabilities over the next few years. Lib Dem Deputy Leader Vince Cable MP introduced a debate in parliament on the blue badge scheme and has lobbied on behalf of residents with conditions which do not qualify.

The Liberal Democrats in Chelmsford have seen their vote in the European Parliament election rise by 1735 since the last such election in 2004, showing a swing from Conservative AND Labour AND UKIP to the Lib Dems. These votes helped Andrew Duff to be re-elected as Lib Dem MEP for the area. Coming on top of excellent local election results, this all points to a close race to be the MP for Chelmsford - between Lib Dem Stephen Robinson and the Conservatives.

Lib Dems celebrate five election wins!

Liberal Democrats are celebrating winning all five county council seats wholly in the Chelmsford parliamentary constituency in the local elections held on 4th June. Councillors Tom Smith-Hughes, Mike Mackrory and Maureen Miller were re-elected, and Jude Deakin and Margaret Hutchon were elected to the county council for the first time.

The Liberal Democrats have received a major boost ahead of this week's crucial local and European elections. They have moved ahead of Labour (and UKIP) to become the SECOND party in British politics and received an endorsement from a national newspaper. An ICM poll for the Telegraph (http://is.gd/KWmr) has the Lib Dems 3% ahead of Labour. 300 British criminals would walk free under Conservative plans

More than 300 dangerous criminals would have walked free under the Conservatives' policy on Europe, according to research by the Liberal Democrats. Conservative MEPs voted against the European Arrest Warrant (EAW), which has slashed extradition times across the EU from an average of eighteen months to just 43 days.

Train company brings in booking fees

Chelmsford's train operator National Express East Anglia is bringing in a booking fee for people who wish to reserve seats. The Liberal Democrats have attacked the decision, saying it will hurt the elderly and infirm particularly badly.
